How To Schedule A First Comment?

Add a first comment to your Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube or TikTok post in Compose, and Statusbrew publishes it with your post, so you can move hashtags, links, mentions or extra details out of your caption.

What Is A First Comment?

A first comment is a comment Statusbrew adds to your post when the post publishes. It keeps your caption short and clean while you still add hashtags, tags, links or a call to action.

You can add a first comment on these networks:

• Facebook

• Instagram

• Threads

• LinkedIn

• YouTube

• TikTok

First comments work in Statusbrew on the web and in the mobile apps. You can't add one to Instagram Stories or Facebook Stories.

Who Can Do This?

• Permissions: you need Create post (needs approval) or Full publishing access on the profiles you post to.

• Instagram: first comments work only for Instagram business and creator profiles.

Add A First Comment

• Go to Publish and click Create post.

• Select the profiles you want to post to.

• Write your caption and add your media.

• Under Media, click First comment. The First comment field appears. Hover over its info icon to see the networks that support it.

• Type your comment. The field has a link options (UTM) icon for links, and you can click Pick from Asset Manager to add saved hashtags.

• Pick your time in the bottom bar and click Post now or Schedule.

Your first comment publishes with your post at the scheduled time. In the post preview, it shows under Comments. You can edit or remove the first comment later, or add one to a post you've already created.

Use A Different First Comment For One Profile

A first comment you write in the Global tab goes to every profile on the post that shows Inheriting from Global.

To change it for one profile, open that profile's tab above the caption box and edit the first comment there. That profile becomes Customised · this profile has its own content. with its own first comment. The other profiles keep the one from Global.

• Customised profiles don't follow Global: changes you make in Global later don't reach a Customised profile.

• Reset to Global: click Reset to Global in the profile tab to use the Global first comment again.

First Comment Limits

A first comment can include text, links, mentions and hashtags, within each network's limits:

For Instagram, keep in mind:

• Hashtags: the 30-hashtag limit counts your caption too. If your caption has 20 hashtags, you can add 10 more in the first comment.

• Links: links in Instagram captions and comments aren't clickable. Use BrewLink in Bio to share links.

• Missing comments: if a scheduled Instagram first comment doesn't post, Instagram likely flagged it as spam. Check it against Instagram's Community Guidelines.

When one first comment goes to several profiles, check the character limit for each of them. Give a profile its own shorter comment in its profile tab if you need to.

Ways To Use The First Comment

• Hashtags: move them out of your caption to keep it clean.

• Longer captions: continue a caption that runs past the character limit, and end the caption with "continued in the comments".

• Links: share a URL with "link in first comment" instead of cluttering the caption.

• Contests and giveaways: list the rules, eligibility or disclaimers.

• Calls to action: ask a question, tag collaborators, or point people to a website, event or subscription.

FAQs

Can I Add A First Comment On X?

No. X isn't one of the networks that support first comments in Compose. To add follow-up posts on X, create an X thread instead.

Can I Use A Different First Comment For LinkedIn And Instagram?

Yes. Write the comment in the Global tab, then open the LinkedIn or Instagram profile tab and change it there. Only that profile gets the new comment.

Why Wasn't My Instagram First Comment Posted?

Instagram most likely flagged it as spam. Check that it follows Instagram's Community Guidelines and stays within 2,200 characters, 10 mentions and 30 hashtags (caption included). First comments also need an Instagram business or creator profile.

Do Hashtags In My Caption Count Toward The Instagram Limit?

Yes. Instagram allows 30 hashtags across the caption and the first comment together.

Can I Add A First Comment To Stories?

No. First comments aren't available for Instagram Stories or Facebook Stories.

Can I Add A First Comment To A Post I Already Scheduled?

Yes. Open the post in Publish → All Posts, edit it, add or change the first comment and save.
