Audience Targeting for Facebook And LinkedIn

Targeting the right audience is key to maximizing engagement and conversions on social platforms. Both Facebook and LinkedIn offer tools that not only help your posts reach the most relevant viewers.

This article explains how to select specific targeting options for Facebook and LinkedIn when creating content.

Overview of Targeting Restrictions

When publishing content, you can narrow down who sees your posts by applying two types of targeting restrictions:

1. Feed Targeting

With feed targeting, users who match the demographic filters you set will see the post in their News Feed. Targeting options include:

  • Age range

  • Gender

  • Location

  • Interests

  • Relationship status

  • Languages

  • Education level and graduation year

2. Gating

Geo- and age-gating further restricts visibility by making your post available to users in chosen locations or within selected age groups.

Note: Audience targeting is not supported for LinkedIn personal profile posts.

Facebook Audience Targeting

  1. Go to Compose.

  2. Select the Facebook Page from the Profile Picker.

  3. Create your post.

  4. Click Audience targeting.

  5. Click in front of Facebook.

  6. The Facebook audience restrictions dialog will open. Adjust your feed targeting restrictions. Type the name of the desired attribute to see a dropdown menu populate. Select one or more items to add them to your post targeting options.

  7. Complete scheduling or publishing your post by selecting Choose date & time option and the Post Now or Schedule. Learn how to select the right posting time.

LinkedIn Audience Targeting

  1. Go to Compose.

  2. Select the LinkedIn Page from the Profile Picker.

  3. Create your post.

  4. Click Audience targeting.

  5. Click in front of LinkedIn.

  6. The LinkedIn audience restrictions dialog will open. Adjust your targeting restrictions. Type the name of the desired attribute to see a dropdown menu populate. Select one or more items to add them to your post targeting options.

As you select your targeting options, Statusbrew displays a LinkedIn estimate of the audience size you'll be able to reach. The minimum audience size required is 300 members. Note that LinkedIn always returns 0 if the reach is under 300.
