Why Are My Images Not Displaying In Link Previews?

While sharing links on social media, there might be cases when images aren't correctly shown in the link preview.

Here is a simple way to fix these issues for different social networks.

Facebook

If you do not see the correct Facebook link preview for your posts, here are the steps to fix it:

  • Go to the Facebook Debugger Tool

  • Copy and paste the URL you're having troubles with into the tool and click debug

  • If you want to update the info you're seeing, click Scrape again

The correct image should now automatically appear on Facebook. If it doesn't, you can manually force Facebook to clear the cache by following these steps:

  • Navigate to your published post

  • Click on three dots beside the post

  • Click on Refresh share attachment

  • If the image appears correctly, click save

Twitter

Twitter only displays the link previews if the link (website) you're sharing has Twitter Card enabled. To check if the link you're sharing has a Twitter Card & how it will look, follow these steps.

  • Go to the Twitter Card Validator

  • Copy and paste the URL you're having troubles with into the tool and click Preview card

LinkedIn

LinkedIn shows link previews based on the data that LinkedIn extracts from the website you're sharing. To ensure the correct image is displayed, follow these steps.

  • Go to the LinkedIn Post Inspector

  • Copy and paste the URL you're having troubles with into the tool and click Inspect

FAQs

A few things can cause this:

The website has no OG metadata set: If the site hasn't defined a title, description, or image in its Open Graph tags, there's nothing for Statusbrew to generate a preview from. Use the relevant debug tool (Facebook Debugger, LinkedIn Post Inspector, Twitter Card Validator) to check what metadata the URL exposes.

The page requires a login to access: Statusbrew can only fetch metadata from publicly accessible URLs. Any page behind a login wall won't generate a preview.

Why can't I upload an image when I've added a link to my post?

You can upload an image alongside a link, but only one will be visible in the published post — either the link preview image or your uploaded image, not both.

If you want your uploaded image to show instead of the link preview

Click the (Remove) icon on the link preview card to dismiss it. The media upload section will appear, and you can upload your own image. The link URL stays in your post text.

If you want the link in your post, but no preview card at all

Go to Link Options in Compose, then delete the link there. This removes the preview card while keeping your post text intact, and lets you upload your own image freely.

Yes. Click the (Remove) icon on the link preview card in Compose. This dismisses the auto-generated preview and lets you upload any image you want. The link URL stays in your post text.

The preview in Compose is generated when you paste the link. If the website updates its OG metadata after you composed the post, the published version will reflect the newer metadata. Social networks also apply their own rendering rules, so slight differences in cropping or layout between Compose and the live post are normal.

Why doesn't my Instagram post show a link preview?

Instagram does not display link preview cards for links in post captions. Links in Instagram captions are not clickable, so no preview is generated. If you want to drive traffic to a URL from Instagram, add it to your bio or use a link-in-bio tool like BrewLink in Bio.

Link preview customization (editing the thumbnail, title, and description) is only available for LinkedIn Pages. For all other networks, the preview is pulled directly from the website's OG metadata and cannot be edited within Statusbrew. To change how a preview looks on those networks, the OG metadata on the website itself needs to be updated.

When you paste a link in Compose, Statusbrew automatically generates a link preview. Follow these steps to add UTM parameters while keeping the preview hidden.

Step 1: Remove the link preview

In Compose, go to the Global tab and find Link Options. Delete the link preview from there. This removes the preview card while keeping the URL in your post text.

Step 2: Add your UTM parameters

With the preview removed, click Add campaign parameters in the Campaign URL Builder section and add your UTM parameters. The tracked URL will update in your post text.

Step 3: Shorten the URL (optional)

UTM parameters make URLs long. Use the Link Shortener (sbrew.link or bit.ly) to keep things clean without losing your tracking data.
