Having the comment section of your Facebook posts under control is not easy, especially if you manage a Facebook business profile with a large following.

Being a public platform, Facebook posts get hijacked by comments that can be spammy, offensive, controversial, etc.

By default, Facebook lets everyone comment on a public post of yours, even people who don't follow you.

If you'd like more control over who can comment on your Facebook posts & learn how to turn off comments on Facebook post, you're in luck.

Facebook has introduced a new change that lets you control who can comment on your Facebook posts.

In this post, we'll help you turn off commenting on a Facebook post for your profiles, business pages, Facebook groups & more.

For Personal Profiles - How To Turn Off Comments On Facebook Posts

Facebook's motive behind the new change is to give more leverage to users to control who can comment on their posts.

With this new change, comments can be restricted on posts at an account level or even in individual Facebook posts. You have the option to choose who is allowed to comment on your posts from options like Public, Friends, and People/Pages mentioned in the post.

To restrict comments on a Facebook post:

  • Go to the desired post on your profile for which you want to restrict the comments
  • Click the three-dot option on the top-right corner of the post
  • Click on 'Who can comment on your post.'
  • You then need to choose one of the three options as listed below

For Facebook Groups - How To Turn Off Comments On Facebook Posts

Facebook groups can sometimes turn out to be the land of heavy & controversial arguments. It can be overwhelming for the group admin to moderate the conversation. In such cases, it's better to turn off comments.

Often for posts that contain information such as group rules or the posts that need to be pinned, it's advisable to disable commenting.

Facebook gives you the option to disable comments for Facebook group posts. To do so, you either need to be the person who shared the post originally or a group admin. If you qualify into one of those two categories, here are the step to turn off comments for a Facebook group post:

  • Navigate to the group for which you want to restrict comments

  • Click the three-dotted icon in the upper right-hand corner, and click on "Turn Off Comments."

For Business Pages - How To Turn Off Comments On Facebook Post

Social media has revolutionized the way consumers can interact with a brand. It gives customers a direct medium to share ideas, feedback & even criticism.

On the other hand, brands can leverage these conversations to create a community & develop brand loyalty.

So one might ask why you need to turn off comments on Facebook?

Sadly, the comment section of Facebook posts is filled with trolls, haters, or spammers, which can diminish the message shared in the post.

Your brands' Facebook page is a public space, and it's your responsibility to keep it clean.

If your comment section is filled with racist, sexist, or homophobic remarks, hate speech and feature inappropriate photo content, your comment section needs to be moderated.

If you're dealing with such comments on a scale, things can quickly get overwhelming. And social media managers resort to the option of disabling comments on the Facebook post.
Although it is easy to turn off comments on Facebook posts in groups, doing it for page posts and ads can be tricky.

Facebook does not offer any options to disable comments on your business Facebook page posts and ad posts.

There are two workarounds if you want to turn off comments on your Facebook page posts and ads. Let's take a look at both of them.

Turn Off Comments On Facebook Post Using Facebook Moderation

Using the Facebook moderation tool, you can get rid of a majority of such comments. Head over to your Facebook Page settings > General > Page Moderation. Now add common symbols such as "." and words like "to," "you," etc., to the forbidden keyword list in your Facebook page administration.
