What Is Comment Ranking On Facebook And How To Enable It

Apr 24, 2021 2 min read

Facebook has become the most influential and essential virtual space. It is not only used for social networking but is also a great way of socially advertising your brand.

Commenting and replying to posts is a great way to build a intense connection with your audience and strengthen your presence on Facebook as a brand. Responding to comments on your Facebook post encourages more engagement. But it essential to get involved in relevant conversations.

What Is Comment Ranking

Facebook algorithm is constantly working to ensure that user's time on Facebook is well spent. One way to do this is through ranking, which helps promote meaningful conversations by showing people comments most relevant to them.

Facebook uses three metrics to determine the quality of comments.

  • Integrity signals (clickbait)
  • Comment interactions
  • Admin's reaction on comments

The more replies or reactions a comment gets, the higher its ranking will be.

How To Enable Comment Ranking

Posts from brands having a lot of followers have Facebook Comment Ranking automatically activated.

Users with fewer followers, comment ranking is not automatically turned on because there are lesser comments under their posts. But if they want to use it, they can go to their settings and turn it on.

To turn comment ranking on or off, you'll need to be a Page admin. If you're an admin follow the steps below:

  1. From your News Feed, click Pages in the left menu
  2. Go to your Page
  3. Click on 'Page Settings' in the bottom left of your Page
  4. From 'General', click 'Comment Ranking'
  5. To turn comment ranking on, click to check the box next to See the most relevant comments by default
  6. Click 'Save Changes'.

What's In It For Brands

Comment ranking leaves a positive impact on brand perception and demonstrates brand authority. This may occur because the comment ranking should help brands display their most engaging and helpful comment conversations to its page users on the top.

If brands feel their pages often endure scrutiny because of controversial comment interactions, Comment Ranking can be beneficial.

Pages with many (Facebook has not defined many) followers get benefited the most using this. For business pages with a smaller following and posts that don't receive as many comments, opting for the comment ranking wouldn't change the comment order on posts too drastically.

No matter if you are a big or small business, it is always good to keep your comment section free from spam or any negative comment.
